Watch “Blood Brother” on PBS tonight at 10

It’s not often that I recommend watching TV but tonight is an exception.  Tonight at 10pm on PBS (WKAR 23 in Lansing) is the the world premier of Blood Brother.

It is the story of an amazing disciple of Jesus who literally gave up everything to serve the poor and hurting of India.  Our “Enough” campaign in June will feature this movie and it’s message.

I hope you can all tune in.  If not, we’ll buy the DVD when it comes out next month and have a showing at church soon.

Here’s the trailer for the Sundance Film Festival Best Documentary:

The ADD Campaign

“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.”

-2 Peter 1:5-7

This year we’ve ushered in a new focus for our church: ADD.  The concept is simple and biblical.  We are going to ADD to our characters a la 2 Peter 1:5-7.  We will do this through sermons on Sunday in Deuteronomy, Wednesday night teaching and activities from 2 Peter, and Home Group meetings in James.  There will be a scattershot of opportunities for you to ADD and grow in your walk with God this year.

Peter goes on to teach that, “if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  So by ADDing to our own faith we will produce fruit and affect others for Christ.

Thus, there is another kind of ADDing that we want to see this year.  It is characterized in Acts 2:47: “the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”  For the last few years we’ve seen God add to our church every couple of weeks and it has been so encouraging.  Our crazy dream this year is for everyone to ADD someone to the church.  Doubling the church sounds daunting but for some reason asking everyone to just help one other person seems doable.

What will it take for you to help one of the lost and searching souls in the Lansing area find God?

To keep us focused on adding this year we will have ADDventure logs in our home groups and ministries.  We will spend time at our meetings focusing on choosing challenging and exciting tasks to help reach the lost in creative ways.  At our midweek services we will gather to hear the tales of ADDventure from our brothers and sisters.

As we announced we will be taking prayer requests a little differently.  You can submit them on our website anytime.  Or you can write your request before midweek begins.  I will remind everyone each week.

Let’s pray to God and dream about all that he can ADD to a group of disciples that have sold out for him.  Let the ADDventures begin!
